The development of Health Workforce Australia’s Rural and Remote Health Workforce Innovation and Reform (RRHWIR) Strategy will provide national guidance on future needs, reforms and initiatives to improve the health care services of those in rural and remote communities.

The RRHWIR Strategy will be informed by an extensive consultation process with stakeholders from the health and education sectors.

The consultation phase will be conducted throughout September and October 2011 in the 19 metropolitan, regional, rural and remote locations listed below:

  • Adelaide - Tuesday 6th September 2011
  • Port Augusta - Wednesday 7th September 2011
  • Canberra - Thursday 8th September 2011
  • Warrnambool - Monday 12th September 2011
  • Albury-Wodonga - Wednesday 14th September 2011
  • Melbourne - Thursday 15th September 2011
  • Weipa - Monday 19th September 2011
  • Mackay - Wednesday 21st September 2011
  • Brisbane - Thursday 22nd September 2011
  • Hobart - Monday 26th September 2011
  • Launceston - Wednesday 28th September 2011
  • Sydney - Thursday 29th September 2011
  • Dubbo - Friday 3rd September 2011
  • Katherine - Monday 1st October 2011
  • Darwin - Wednesday 12th October 2011

Background

The RRHWIR Strategy will be a complementary document to Health Workforce Australia’s National Health Workforce Innovation and Reform Strategic Framework for Action and the National Training Plan. It will seek to:

  • promote better utilisation of existing workforce;
  • support optimal use of skills and workforce adaptability;
  • build workforce capacity for responding and adapting to changing demands in rural and remote communities.
