Health Workforce 2025 Volumes 1 and 2 released

Health Workforce Australia is pleased to advise that the Australian Health Ministers have released Volumes One and Two of Health Workforce 2025 (HW2025).

The report identifies a range of policy considerations covering workforce reform, training, immigration and geographical distribution. Health Ministers are working together to consider the options to ensure a more sustainable health workforce to meet the future health needs of the Australian community.

HW2025 is comprised of three volumes.

Health Workforce Australia invites submissions to be provided by close of business on Wednesday 30 May 2012.

Request for Proposals: Extending the Role of Paramedics

HWA has a Program to progress expanded scope of practice roles, and one of the projects is 'Extending the Role of Paramedics'. The Project seeks to support the national transfer and further implementation of key elements identified from a previously evaluated Extended Care Paramedic (ECP) program.

Non-Government Mental Health Workforce Sector Project

This project designed and tested a methodology to support mental health workforce planning for the diverse non-government community mental health sector. This project forms the basis of plans for improved and ongoing data collection on workforce supply and trends in this sector.

Women the Leaders in Australia’s Growing Medical Workforce

Australia’s medical workforce has grown steadily in the 10 years to 2009 with the number of female working doctors increasing to make up more than one-third (36 per cent) of all working doctors.

A new report by Health Workforce Australia, Australia’s Health Workforce Series: Doctors in focus, provides a comprehensive and up-to-date picture of Australia’s medical workforce from 1999 to 2009.

Requests for Proposals closing soon

The Extended Scopes of Practice Project involves undertaking a number of targeted innovative health workforce reform initiatives with a specific focus on role redesign and expanding the scope of existing health workers in acute care settings. Requests for proposals are closing at the end of this week so interested organisations will need to register their interest before the closing dateof Friday 9 March 2012.

The Nursing & Midwifery Graduate Jobs website is now online

The Nursing and Midwifery Graduate Jobs Information Portal aims to support new nursing and midwifery graduates who have not secured a position through usual state or territory graduate recruitment processes by providing them with a simple 'one stop shop' which lists information about all vacancies suitable for graduates across the public and private sectors.

This will give graduates the opportunity to work in suitable positions in hospitals, Aboriginal health, community health services, general practices and aged care facilities across Australia.
